The holiday stretch packs four incompatible parties into six weeks. The office one, the family one, the friends' one, and New Year's Eve. One dress rarely covers all four, and the mistakes are predictable: too much sparkle at the office, not enough on December 31st.
The office holiday party
The rule here is that people have to see you at your desk in January. Aim for festive fabric in a conservative cut — a satin midi, a dark velvet, a sequin skirt with a plain knit on top. Avoid a high slit, a plunging front and a bodycon mini all at once; any one of them alone is fine.
A dark jewel tone does more work than black at an office party. It signals you dressed for the occasion without signaling anything else.
Family gatherings
